Susan is no stranger to layoffs herself. She was among thousands laid off in 1994 when Fortune 50 Company, DEC (Digital Equipment Company) began to fail. Before her DEC experience, she worked in Harvard University's Personnel Office and in a Boston salary survey consulting company, where she developed many industry contacts and experience in employment-related issues. Susan has written and spoken extensively on the subject of online job search and was a pioneer in this relatively new field. She also teaches employers and recruiters how to recruit employees online.
She's been quoted in hundreds of publications, and her website has earned numerous awards. Job-Hunt.org has been listed since 2002 as Forbes Best of the Web for Job Hunting, since 2006 as the U.S. News & World Report Top Site for Finding Work and it's listed in PC Magazine Best of the Internet for Careers. Susan will take us on a tour of her own extensive website, which has state-by-state and employer-by-employer resources for job searchers across the country, as well as resources for all categories of job seekers, hundreds of solid articles written by subject-matter experts, and concise 20-minute guides to specific employment-related topics.
She'll also review some of the current trends in job search — for example, using LinkedIn for job search and company research, or using the new resume app at Indeed.com — and she'll talk about avoiding scam sites that lurk among the legitimate job boards on the web.
